we are having a big engagement party, we live in the UK, we register for gifts?

we are having a big engagement party in June and have invited 250 people, and who marry in Australia, and I know that many people wont be able to come to the wedding. Now my question is, will need to sign in a place for gifts and say that we have done? i am going to make the wording of the invitation and the need to know what to say. I just do not want people to think they have to buy a gift, I live in the UK and I'm not sure what it is not polite. please help!

If you just do it, many people do. This only means that you do not get 6 toasters, 3 boilers, etc. just tell them, do not be offended. Congractulations and hope you have a good time.
