The Empire State Building
New York € ™ s tallest building is the Empire Sate Building, located on Fifth Avenue, New York, between the street 33 and 34th Street. It was built on the site of the Waldorf-Astoria Hotel and took 410 days at 4 ½ floors a busy week. â € ¢ Â The cost was $ 40,948,900, including land (the cost of construction only $ 24,718,000).
â € ¢ Â € ™ s building weighs 331,122 tons. This includes a framework of steel, 54,431 tons, 10 million bricks sandstone deck and 662 tons of aluminum and stainless steel.
â € ¢ Â The Empire State is served by 73 lifts and has 3,194,547 light bulbs, 80 miles of radiator pipes and 113 km of water pipes.
â € ¢ Â The rod has reached 68 times in the building ™ € s first ten years.
â € ¢ Â In 2003, the Australian cyclist Paul Crake has broken the record for running the 1575 stair to the 86 at 9 minutes and 33 seconds.
â € ¢ Â July 28, 1945, a B-25 received in the fog between the buildings € ™ s 78th and 79th floors, killing the pilot and other 13 people. It happened on a Saturday, most offices were empty, or the number of casualties would have been greater.
â € ¢ Â € ™ s buildings are colored lights changed for seasonal celebrations. They are red, white and blue Independence Day and green St. Patrick Street € ™ s Day. The lights are off when birds migrate to avoid confusing them.
In â € ¢ Â € ™ s Valentine's Day, the Couples can marry on the 80th floor.
