Is it against australian law to sell raffle tickets for the purpose of helping my family?
Im a single mum of 2 young children. I dont make much money and am finding it hard to afford anything beyond general living expenses. I had an idea that i could make up a few gift baskets and sell raffles tickets and use the profits to buy chrissy presents for my kids.
I just wanted to make sure that this isnt illegal? Im in South Australia.
Chook raffles were pretty common decades ago. A guy would come into a pub with a frozen chook or meat tray and sell tickets to everyone in the pub, pull out the winner give the prize, and do the same thing to the next pub down the road.
Another $ idea you may try without disappearing into pubs at night is make stencils to spray paint house numbers on curbs.

how do i stop my 7 year old daughter from opening her sisters gifts?
my 7 year old loves to open gifts but is always trying to do this with her little sister we would like a peaceful christmas so i do not want to have to shout

I had a similar situation ... I then got the older daughter to act as 'the fairy' and she was in charge of giving the presents out!! Whilst she was trying to read the card, her younger brother was able to open his without too much interference from her. When she did try, I would just tell her to find one that was for her! You do have to explain to her, before you start the whole opening up of presents, explain to her that everyone gets excited about opening their own presents, and she has to let everyone open their own!! Then tell her she can have the important job of handing out the gifts, and make sure you space hers throughout the whole thing. Perhaps have a special choc for her if she is really co-operative. I found it worked for mine, and on the odd occassion when she went a little determined, I would tell her she could open one of mine!! Good luck and I hope its a happy one!!

So its our 2 year anneversary soon. And my boyfriend told me he didn't want to exchange presents. I really wanted to get him something but he really does not want me getting him anything. well maybe he wants to get you something really special since it is your 2 yr anniversery and since he cant afford a present that he thinks is good enough for a date like this he would rather exchange cards and do something special instead! so dont embarass him!! talk about exchanging cards and maybe a picnic or something romantic that the two of you dont need to spend much money on! maybe a candlelit homemade dinner! its about the two of you spending time together to reminise on the day you two got together!
