Ohshogatsu The Japanese celebrate New Year, the first of January. This day is one of the most important festivals in Japan and contains many customs. Families continue the tradition of making lots of food for the occasion, although many families in Japan to buy food now, more to do.

In the United States, a family to cook the special New Year's Eve, and serve family and friends who visit your home all day on New Year's Day. Also visit other houses and eat your meal to celebrate the occasion.

The first dish that you're supposed to eat in the morning of New Year is a soup called layer ozone. People make this soup of different ways, depending on region of Japan, where their ancestors came, but usually contains vegetables, kamaboko (cake fish) and mochi (rice cake). This soup is inexperienced and is gentle on the stomach. Real consumption begins in the afternoon!

Another dish that is always used these days is kuromame (black beans). Slightly sweet beans means good health and are you supposed to eat grain per year of age you have, the more one for next year. Tai, a type of red snapper, is sometimes used. This means that happiness and the fish is served whole. Kazunoko (herring roe) is crunchy, salty, and with a ginger sauce and soy sauce. This dish symbolizes fertility.

Japanese Americans also other of today's foods, including sushi (California Roll, Inari sushi, makisushi and ebisushi, for example), crab, oysters, char siu, chicken teriyaki, tempura, Spam musubi, tofu and American food. The food is always abundant, and is a joyful and happy occasion as everyone expects another year healthy, prosperous and happy.
