Never heard of someone a party for her ex-spouse?

I have curious if anyone has heard of this before or not, could be quite normal these days and leave the loop! I recently received an invitation to a surprise birthday party colleague. The invitation requested to RSVP two people: One of his friends and his former wife. Seeing the name of his ex-wife as the party organizer surprised me. They divorced about 7 or 8 years, and I realize now have a relationship that works pretty well for the sake of children. (In other words, this is not one of those totally wrong, the acrimony. They are nice and civil society to another.) So I wonder: Is it just a normal century, what someone a surprise party for his former number? 21 years thanks in advance.

This is rare and good for them. Purpose of divorce to friends is not easy.
