What is a fun dinner idea to make with kids?
For Valentine's Day, I'm keeping five kids overnight (ages 4-9). Instead of going out like I usually do with them, we are going to hang out at home. We are going to watch movies, play games, and make V-day cupcakes. I'm trying to think of something creative that they can make for their dinner. We have already done the homemade pizza before, but I'm trying to think of something original. Something easy to make with them (and cheap bc they can eat alot!). Any ideas?
I've already done tacoes with them too. LOL. I'm trying to think of something fun and cool.
Here's a few ideas for dinner.............
1. Chip Chick
Serves 4
1 1/2 lbs. skinless, boneless chicken breast
1 large egg
1/4 cup milk
1/4 tsp. black pepper
2 (6-oz.) bags potato chips (you won't need them all, but you want a nice deep layer)
Preheat the oven to 400 degress F. Cut the chicken into fingers or nuggets. Beat together the egg, milk, and pepper, and soak the chicken in it while you prepare the chips thus: Open the bags a teeny bit in one corner; then, with a rolling pin or skillet or unopened soda can or whatever you have on hand, crush the chips as fine as you can (kids can complete this job with great enthusiasm) and pour into a shallow baking dish.
A few at a time, flop the chicken fingers around in the potato chips until they're well coated. Put them on a baking sheet (ideally, one that's been covered with parchment paper, for easy cleanup) and bake for 10 minutes. Turn the chicken fingers over and bake for 10 more minutes. (You may have to stick them under the broiler for a minute or two) Serve chicken with a dipping sauce, if you want.
2. Piggies In a Blanket
What you need:
4 hotdogs
1 package of croissant dough (the stuff in the tube that you use to cook your own croissants works really well)
Cookie sheet
What you do:
Cut each hotdog in half. Wrap each half with a triangle of croissant dough. Place the dough-covered hotdogs on the cookie sheet. Bake for about 15 minutes, or until the croissant dough is golden brown. Remove and cool. These are delicious dipped in mustard or ketchup! two if you want the coating more browned.)
3. Bluffles Waffles Shack
What you need:
7 fresh or frozen square waffles, toasted
Toothpicks
Vanilla icing
Red food coloring
Sprinkles
Blueberries
Knife
What you do:
Take four of the waffles and make the walls of the shack, using toothpicks to hold them together.
Cut one of the waffles in half diagonally. Attach half the waffle with the toothpicks on top of the front of the shack. Repeat for the back wall. This will help support the roof.
Attach the last two waffles with toothpicks to make the roof.
Mix vanilla icing with the red food coloring until it turns pink.
Use the icing to make two windows and one door on the front of the shack.
Spread icing on the roof and drip some icing down the front. Then put some sprinkles on the roof and on the top of the windows.
Finally, decorate your shack with blueberries. Don’t forget a blueberry chimney!
